How big is GTA 6? File size and storage

GTA 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest console downloads ever. Here is the number, how solid it is, and how to get ready.

GTA 6 file size: about 210 GB (reported)

• Figure: about 210 GB for the PS5 version.
• Where it comes from: the PlayStation Game Size account, which reads PlayStation Store backend data, posted it on October 27, 2026.
• What it is not: an official number. Rockstar and Sony have not published a size, and the store page does not list one.
• Xbox: no figure yet.

How much space do you need for GTA 6?

Plan for at least 210 GB free, plus room for a day-one update. On common consoles that means:

Because boxed copies hold a code rather than a disc, every player downloads the whole game. See GTA 6 platforms.

When to download GTA 6

Preloading opens on November 12, 2026 for digital copies and boxed codes, a week before the GTA 6 release date. A 210 GB download takes about 8 hours on a 60 Mbps connection and under 30 minutes on 1 Gbps, so starting early matters. Details in GTA 6 release time and preload.

Why is GTA 6 so big?

Rockstar has not explained it. What it has said points one way: Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut told the New York Times the game has more than 600,000 hand-made animations, against about 55,000 in GTA 5, and told Edge it has an order of magnitude more interiors than earlier games. The game is also set across a whole state, Leonida, not one city; see GTA 6 map and location.
