Map and location guide
Where is GTA 6 located? Leonida and Vice City
GTA 6 is located in Leonida, a fictional US state, and its main city is Vice City. Rockstar's tagline is "Vice City, USA", and it calls the setting a return to modern-day Vice City inside the "sprawling state of Leonida." Leonida is compared to Florida and Vice City to Miami, but Rockstar's places are fictional and it has not published a full map.

Rockstar has named the state, the main city and six places to visit, but it has not published a full map. Everything below comes from Rockstar’s own pages unless we say it was reported or is our own comparison.
Where is GTA 6 located?
- State: Leonida, a fictional US state. Rockstar’s copy calls it “the Goodtime State”, and the state’s TV mascot is Macca the Gator.
- Main city: Vice City. The game’s tagline is “Vice City, USA.”
- Rockstar’s wording: the Trailer 1 post describes Leonida as home to Vice City “and beyond”. The November 2025 notice that set the GTA 6 release date calls the game a return to modern-day Vice City in the “sprawling state of Leonida.”
GTA 6 map: the six places Rockstar profiles
Rockstar’s “Only in Leonida” section on its GTA VI site profiles six places. It does not say these are the only regions in the game. The unofficial map at the top of this page pins each one on the real Florida place it is compared to; it is our illustration, not Rockstar’s layout. Each entry gives Rockstar’s description first, then the real place it is usually compared to; the comparisons are ours, not Rockstar’s.
- Vice City: Rockstar sells it as America’s sun-and-fun capital, still glamorous decades after the 1980s. It names Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port, which it bills as the cruise-ship capital of the world. Compared to: Miami.
- Leonida Keys: a tropical island chain with beach bars, boat parties and diving, next to beautiful but dangerous waters. Compared to: the Florida Keys.
- Grassrivers: a vast, primeval wetland. The gators are the famous attraction, but Rockstar warns of deadlier predators and stranger finds in the mangroves. Compared to: the Everglades, whose real nickname is the “River of Grass.”
- Port Gellhorn: Leonida’s “forgotten coast”, a fading vacation town of cheap motels, closed attractions and empty strip malls, with a dirt-bike culture. Compared to: the Florida Panhandle, where “The Forgotten Coast” is a tourism nickname for the area around Apalachicola and Port St. Joe.
- Ambrosia: an industrial town with old-school values. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery provides the jobs, and a local biker gang supplies most of everything else. Compared to: the sugar towns south of Lake Okeechobee, such as Clewiston.
- Mount Kalaga: a national landmark on the northern border, captioned by Rockstar as Mount Kalaga National Park, with hunting, fishing, off-road trails and backwoods full of fringe mystics and anti-government types. Compared to: nothing exact. Florida’s highest point, Britton Hill, is only about 345 feet, so treat Mount Kalaga as invented terrain.
Rockstar’s Extended Look, released August 27, 2026, shows airboats in the swamp and scuba diving; see GTA 6 trailers.
What cities are in GTA 6?
Vice City is the only city Rockstar profiles. Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia are described as towns, and the other three places are islands, wetland and backcountry. Rockstar’s edition and bonus copy names more places:
- Stockyard: a streetwear store, a tattoo parlour and street murals.
- Lake Leonida: an off-road mod shop. Compared to: Lake Okeechobee.
- Southside Vice City: the compound of the PTT Youngin$ gang.
- Bays and beaches: Watson Bay (Paradise Garage), Gambit Bay (fishing) and Washington Beach (a boat dock).
- Shore Drive and the Vercetti Estate: the estate is a callback to Tommy Vercetti, lead of 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
- Leonida Penitentiary: where Lucia served time, according to her bio.
Liberty City appears only in Lucia’s backstory. Bloomberg reported in October 2026 that an early concept, codenamed “Project Americas”, covered large parts of North and South America before it was scaled back. That is a report about early plans, not a Rockstar statement.
What city is GTA 6 based on?
Rockstar never names a real city. Vice City is compared to Miami and Leonida to Florida; Rockstar’s own copy even calls Leonida “the sunshine state” in lower case. The matches:
- Ocean Beach: pastel art-deco hotels and white sand, like Miami Beach and South Beach.
- Little Cuba: compared to Little Havana.
- VC Port: “cruise-ship capital of the world” echoes PortMiami, which markets itself as the “Cruise Capital of the World.”
Bloomberg reported in 2022 that the game had been narrowed to one Miami-inspired city, and in October 2026 that the team’s first research trip to Miami was in 2015. More on the city in Vice City in GTA 6.
When does GTA 6 take place?
In the present day. Rockstar’s November 2025 notice calls the game a return to “modern-day Vice City”, and its Vice City profile describes the city decades after the 1980s. None of the official Rockstar posts cited here names an exact year.
The character bios point the same way. The Real Dimez built their name on relentless social media, and Cal Hampton listens in on Coast Guard radio with private browser tabs open. If you meant the release year: GTA 6 comes out on November 19, 2026.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
- Official size: none. Rockstar has not published a full map or a map size as of November 3, 2026, so any full map shared online is unofficial.
- Demo area: Rob Nelson of Rockstar North told IGN that the area shown in a July 2026 press demo was a “tiny” part of the map, according to Insider Gaming’s summary.
- Interiors: Edge magazine’s October 2026 cover story quotes Aaron Garbut saying the game has an “order of magnitude more interiors” than earlier entries.
