GTA 6 on PS5 reportedly needs system software 14.22 before launch
GTA 6 on PS5 now lists system software 14.22.00.00 as its minimum, up from 14.10, according to the PlayStation Game Size account, which reads PlayStation Store data. Sony released firmware 14.22 on November 2, 2026, as a security update that does not mention the game. Rockstar has not announced any firmware requirement.
The minimum PS5 system software listed for GTA 6 has reportedly moved up again, 17 days before the November 19, 2026 launch. The figure comes from store data, not from Rockstar or Sony.
GTA 6 PS5 firmware 14.22: what was reported
- Who reported it: PlayStation Game Size, an account that reads PlayStation Store backend data. Push Square and Tech Times covered the post.
- The change: the game’s minimum PS5 firmware moved to 14.22.00.00.
- Before: the listing showed 14.10 earlier in October.
- Sony’s update: firmware 14.22 shipped on November 2 as a security update. Its release notes do not mention GTA 6.
- Rockstar: has not announced any firmware requirement, so this stays a report.
Why GTA 6 might need the latest PS5 update
Outlets link the new minimum to recent PS5 jailbreak exploits. That is their reading of the timing. Neither Sony nor Rockstar has given a reason.
For players the practical step is the same either way. If the reported minimum is right, updating the console before preload day avoids a wait on launch night.
GTA 6 on PS5: the dates around it
- November 12, 2026: digital preload opens, and boxed code-in-box copies go on sale to support it. Take-Two confirmed both in June.
- November 19, 2026: launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, confirmed.
- Download size: about 210 GB on PS5, from the same store-data account and also unconfirmed. See our report on the GTA 6 file size.
Boxed copies hold only a download code, with no disc, so every PS5 buyer has to download the game. No Xbox size figure has surfaced.
