GTA 6 leaks: from the 2022 hack to the 2026 Cyberleek clips
GTA 6 has had four major leaks: about 90 development clips from the September 2022 hack, Trailer 1 a day early in December 2023, Rockstar company data in an April 2026 breach, and gameplay clips from an account called Cyberleek between August and October 2026. Rockstar confirmed the 2022 intrusion and the April 2026 breach, and called the 2026 leaks "heartbreaking for our team." Take-Two has gone to court to identify the 2026 leaker.

GTA 6 2022 leaks: the Rockstar hack
On September 18, 2022, about 90 early development clips of the next GTA appeared on a forum. The next day Rockstar confirmed a network intrusion in which an unauthorized party downloaded confidential information, including early footage of the game. Rockstar said it did not expect any disruption to its live services or to ongoing development.
- The cost: Rockstar later told a UK court that the hack cost it about $5m to recover from, plus thousands of hours of staff time, the BBC reported.
- The hacker: Arion Kurtaj, then 18 and a member of the Lapsus$ group, received an indefinite hospital order in December 2023.
- Rockstar looking back: in an October 2026 Bloomberg feature, Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut called the 2022 leak “weirdly invasive” and hard to deal with emotionally, according to Insider Gaming.
GTA 6 Trailer 1 leak (December 2023)
Rockstar had scheduled Trailer 1 for Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 9 a.m. Eastern. After a copy leaked on social media on Monday, December 4, Rockstar posted the trailer early, around 6 p.m. Eastern that evening, and told fans to watch the real version on YouTube, VGC reported. Rockstar’s Newswire post is dated December 5; later trailers are in GTA 6 trailers.
GTA 6 leaks 2026: the April data breach
- April 11: the hacking group ShinyHunters set a ransom deadline of April 14, claiming access to Rockstar’s Snowflake data through the cloud-cost vendor Anodot. Rockstar told Kotaku that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in a third-party breach, with no impact on the company or its players.
- April 14: after Rockstar did not pay, the group released analytics that outlets say put GTA Online at roughly $1 million or more a day. No GTA 6 assets or player credentials were reported in the data, and Rockstar has not verified the figures.
- September 28: Dutch police arrested a 24-year-old Amsterdam man whom the FBI described as a ShinyHunters leader likely involved in the April breach. ShinyHunters denies he was involved, and Rockstar has not commented.
GTA 6 Cyberleek leaks (August to October 2026)
- August 18: gameplay clips began appearing from an account called Cyberleek, and more than a dozen followed over the next week. The group posted “demands” aimed at Rockstar, such as no digital pre-orders before release, and promoted a crypto token alongside the leaks. Rockstar issued takedowns.
- August 26: hours after Rockstar’s statement (below), the leaker posted a longer story clip of about four minutes. Its on-screen claims about the state of the build are unverified.
- October 8: a file of about 25 minutes of footage appeared, attributed to Cyberleek. Coverage says it includes cutscenes and story spoilers; its authenticity has not been verified, and Insider Gaming reports Take-Two was removing copies.
- October 14: in a message titled “End of the road”, the account said it would not release a full build or more gameplay. It threatened to release its remaining story spoilers if it were taken down, and denied that its crypto token was a scam.
We do not name or link to the token, the clips or where they were posted. Any GTA 6 “download”, APK, beta or early access offered before November 19, 2026 is a scam.
What did Rockstar say about the GTA 6 leaks?
- 2022 and April 2026: Rockstar confirmed both breaches, as set out above.
- August 26, 2026: in a statement on Instagram, Rockstar called the leaks “heartbreaking for our team”, apologised that official information had taken so long, and asked fans to wait to experience the game themselves on November 19. It pointed to the next day’s Extended Look and did not confirm specific clips.
- Since then: no Rockstar response to the October file or the “End of the road” message has been reported.
Take-Two’s GTA 6 leak subpoenas
On August 20, 2026, Take-Two filed DMCA Section 512(h) subpoena requests in federal court in Manhattan, seeking data that could identify the leaker. The first batch, aimed at several tech platforms, had a September 4 compliance date; more followed within days, and TorrentFreak reports one was later withdrawn. As of November 3, 2026, it is not public whether any platform handed over data or whether the leaker has been identified.
Did the GTA 6 leaks delay the game?
Nothing official links any delay to the leaks. Rockstar’s November 2025 delay cited the need for polish, and the GTA 6 release date of November 19, 2026 has held through every 2026 leak. The full history of date changes is in GTA 6 delays.
GTA 6 leaks and the fired Rockstar staff
Rockstar dismissed more than 30 UK staff in 2025, saying they shared confidential information in a public forum; the staff and their union, the IWGB, say the firings were union-busting. The Glasgow Employment Tribunal hearing opened on September 10, 2026, and closing arguments are reported for November 17 and 18. More on the studio is in GTA 6 development, and updates land in our GTA 6 news.
