How the 2022 GTA 6 leak case got here

  • September 2022: about 90 clips of early GTA 6 footage appeared on a forum. Rockstar confirmed a network intrusion the next day.
  • December 2023: a jury at Southwark Crown Court found that Kurtaj carried out the hack. Doctors had found him unfit to stand trial, so the jury decided only whether he did the acts, and he was given an indefinite hospital order.
  • The cost: Rockstar told the court the hack cost it about $5 million to recover from.
  • July 2026: BBC cyber correspondent Joe Tidy reported that Kurtaj had been moved to an ordinary prison to await a full criminal trial.

What it means for GTA 6

Nothing for the launch. The case concerns a 2022 hack and footage from a much earlier build.

It is also separate from the 2026 leaks by an account called Cyberleek, whose owner has not been publicly identified. Both are covered in GTA 6 leaks and who leaked GTA 6. We will report the outcome when the trial ends.
