GTA 6 leaks: Rockstar says they are heartbreaking for the team

Rockstar responded to the August 2026 GTA 6 leaks with an Instagram statement on August 26, calling them "heartbreaking for our team" and asking fans to wait to play the game themselves on November 19. The leaks began on August 18 from a site called Cyberleek, and Take-Two reportedly went to court on August 20 to identify the leaker.

After about a week of leaked GTA 6 clips, Rockstar responded on August 26, 2026. The statement came the day before the Extended Look premiered.

Rockstar’s GTA 6 leak statement

  • Where: Instagram, on August 26, 2026.
  • What it said: the leaks were “heartbreaking for our team”.
  • Apology: Rockstar apologised that official information had taken so long.
  • The ask: fans should wait to experience the game themselves on November 19.
  • Pointer: it pointed to the next day’s Extended Look. See GTA 6 Extended Look.

The statement acknowledged the leaks without confirming any specific clip.

How the GTA 6 Cyberleek leaks started

Clips began appearing on August 18 from a site called Cyberleek, as Kotaku and PC Gamer reported. This site does not link to leaked footage or to the leaker.

  • First clips: Jason shooting hoops at a safehouse, driving, and possibly the full map.
  • Volume: more than a dozen clips over the following week.
  • Demands: the group published demands aimed at Rockstar, such as no digital pre-orders before release.
  • Token: it promoted a crypto token alongside the leaks.
  • Takedowns: Rockstar issued takedowns.

Hours after Rockstar’s statement, the leaker posted another clip with on-screen claims that the build was recent and the game “not ready”. Those claims are unverified, and the clips’ authenticity has not been confirmed beyond Rockstar’s acknowledgement that leaks happened.

Take-Two’s GTA 6 leak subpoenas

On August 20, Take-Two filed DMCA Section 512(h) subpoena requests in federal court in Manhattan, seeking data to identify the leaker, according to Dexerto and TorrentFreak.

  • First targets: Microsoft, including GitHub and OneDrive, and three Discord servers, with a September 4 compliance date.
  • Later targets: X and Google/YouTube, within days.
  • Withdrawn: TorrentFreak reports one Google request was later withdrawn.
  • Result: no identity has been made public, as of November 3, 2026.
